An article in The Evening Star, dated Friday 28 July 1911, reads:
FALL OF EARTH CAUSES A MINER'S DEATH
Yesterday afternoon William Craine was killed while working at the Golden Dream Gold Mine. Shortly before crib time, Joseph Jackson, his mate, and he fired some holes, and afterward they worked down some of the loose ground.
Craine started to loosen a piece of rock with a large bar and Jackson walked in another direction. In a minute he returned and found Craine under some loose rocks, apparently dead.
With assistance, Craine's body was got from the weight upon him, and on the arrival of Dr. Arkle, it was found that life was extinct. An inquest was afterward formally opened and adjourned until 2.30 pm on August 1. The deceased was a single man and very popular among his mates.
