Other Information
Kalgorlie Miner 11 Mar 1914 FATAL MINE ACCIDENT - GREAT BOULDER PROPRIETARY - MAN CRUSHED TO PULP A particularly shocking, accident was recorded at the Great Boulder Proprietary mine about 7 o'clock last evening, when a miner named Arthur Smith, married, who resided at No. 163 Hopkins street, Boulder, was killed by a fall of earth at the 1300 ft. level of the mine in question. The deceased and his mate, Frederick Uren, were at work in a stope when a mass of rock, estimated at between 13 and 14 ton, fell without warning and struck the deceased, who must have been killed instantaneously. Uren was fortunate enough to escape without injury. The body of the deceased, when recovered, was found to be crushed and mangled beyond recognition. It was removed to the Boulder morgue at nine o'clock. An inquest on the remains will be formally opened by the acting Coroner. Mr. B. Leslie, before a jury, at the Boulder Courthouse at eight o'clock this morning. The deceased, who was a comparatively young man, is understood to have left a widow and one child. - Inquest: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/207258821
