Mark Nicholls:- Mark Nicholls was born in 1818 in Gwennap, Cornwall, the son of William. He married Mary Ann Hocking on 27 November 1841 in Penzance, Cornwall. They had six children in 12 years. He died on 6 June 1885 in Moonta, South Australia, at the age of 67.

NICHOLLS.— Thomas, dearly beloved husband of Mary Nicholls, killed March 3 Iron Monarch Lease, Brown Hill, aged 56 years. (Adelaide and Sydney papers 3 march 1909 please copy.)

The Friends of the late THOMAS NICHOLLS are respectfully informed that his remains will be removed from his late residence, North Williams town, at 11 o'clock This Day (Friday), March 5th,- for interment in the Methodist portion of the Kalgoorlie Cemetery. J. H. Greenwood, Undertaker, Burt-street

Net Proceeds. — Recently benefit entertainments were given on behalf of the widow and family of the late Mr. Nicholls, who met his death as the result of an accident at Brown Hill. The total receipts came to £506 and the deduction of necessary expenditure leaves a balance of £271 to be handed to the recipients of the benefit.

In the operations against the enemy position at MONT DE MERRIS near STRAZEELE on night 2nd/3rd June, 1918, Corporal NICHOLLS displayed conspicuous gallantry. during the advance he kept two sections well in hand and on reaching an enemy trench rushed and captured single handed a machine gun and three of the enemy who had temporarily held up our advancing troops. Later in the morning he took charge of carrying parties and succeeded in getting supplies to the front line under machine gun fire.'
